Before founding MediaJel with his business partner, Aaron, Jake started the mobile advertising company, Media Cannon. As CEO, he built the company up and led it to a successful exit in 2010. He’s created successful mobile products, ad-tech platforms serving millions of users, and has a proven executive management track record. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of everything, as far we can tell. And no, you won’t beat him at trivia.
Interesting Fact: Jake spent every day of first grade in detention.
Co-founder; President; Chief Revenue Officer
Aaron is a serial entrepreneur with over ten years of experience in the cannabis industry. In that time, he’s seen every side of the business. He’s worked several huge-name legacy cannabis brands and owned OMG Farms, which he sold to focus on MediaJel. Graduating with a Bachelor’s in Communications with an emphasis in Marketing and Advertising from The San Diego State University, Aaron excels in defining, developing, and executing strategies to generate new business, products, and revenue channels. While he has a brain for the cannabis business, his heart belongs to riding beach cruisers with his family, coaching youth sports, and quoting 80’s comedies.
Interesting Fact: At 14 years old, Aaron exaggerated his age when applying to Arby’s. He got the job.
Chief Operations Officer | General Counsel
Jonathan is a true renaissance man, in every sense of the word. He played football and rugby for the University of San Diego, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Political Science. Since graduating, Jonathan has founded, ran, or sat on the Board of 29 different companies spanning across disciplines. He’s worked in the real estate, beverage and film industries—where he produced two movies—just to name a few. After completing law school at John F. Kennedy University, Jonathan founded his own law firm, Weston Law Group PC. Jonathan’s extensive and diverse experience makes him the perfect fit to handle MediaJel’s fast-moving, ever-evolving, operations.
Interesting Fact: Jonathan’s professional career began with lots of flour and tomato sauce, flipping pizza dough.
SVP of Consumer Products
Steve is a serial entrepreneur (hey, we’ve got a type). Over the last twenty years, he’s built custom software for companies on the Fortune 500 list and nearly 100 early-stage startups. In his career, he’s worked for six award-winning software companies, four of which he co-founded: Logical Advantage, Vibe Ventures, Binary Ventures and Urban Leaf Ventures. Nothing feeds his soul like the creative process, whether it’s in the office or in his kitchen cooking lunch for the team or his two daughters, Alexandra and Jordan, back in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Interesting Fact: In high school, Steve earned more money than his teachers by owning the two largest newspaper routes in Charlotte.
Vice President of Communications
Jen brings nearly twenty-five years of public relations and communications experience to the MediaJel team. In that time, she’s worked with and run campaigns for some of the most renowned Silicon Valley startups and Fortune 500 companies. In 2015, Jen’s professional life changed forever when she saw for herself the incredible effects CBD had on the people close to her. Jen shifted her focus to cannabis PR. In 2017, she founded Potnt, a cannabis PR agency, where Jen played a role in launching some of the leading cannabis brands in the US. Jen knows the value of a good story, and she’s excited to help our clients tell theirs.
Interesting Fact: Jen was an NFL wife for 15 years while her husband served as head athletic trainer for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, so she’s ready to join our Fantasy Football League.
Senior Vice President of Account Services
With over twenty years of experience leading accounts at The Integer Group for clients like Kellogg’s, Coors, Coca-Cola, Jack Links, and White Wave Foods, Todd brings a broad and deep understanding of developing fully-integrated, commerce-driving shopper marketing campaigns across a range of retail channels and store formats to the MediaJel team. With his extensive experience in consumer packaged goods and shopper marketing, Todd is a critical part of the unique capabilities we offer.
Interesting Fact: Todd got his first job in advertising at the ripe age of 9, starring in a commercial for K-Tel snow sleds.
Senior Vice President of Sales
Lacy is a 20-year veteran in sales. For the last nine, he’s used his expertise in mobile location data and consumer products to promote and engage customers across mobile ad experiences for brands like Toyota, Adidas, Walmart, and Dollar General, to name a few. He’s a Colorado native, an avid sports fan, and the father of three beautiful kids. When where he’s not selling or jetting between our CA and CO offices, you’ll find him on the green, the slopes, or at a country show.
Interesting Fact: Lacy runs like a frightened kid at the sight of bees.
Vice President of Strategic Partnerships
Named after author Dashiell Hammett (“The Maltese Falcon”), Dash is an accomplished digital marketer, sales leader, and all around digerati. In his ten years in the industry, he’s helped create global initiatives for clients like the Wall Street Journal and campaigns that reached millions for Pacific Gas and Electric. The dual Australian citizen spent his college years as a D1 swimmer at UC Berkeley. When that wasn’t enough for him, he built his own social media network for the music industry. With a passion for the user experience, Dash is always thinking above and beyond for our clients and is the anchor of the MediaJel ad ops team.
Interesting Fact: Throughout his life, Dash has worn a speedo more days than not.
Vice President of Engineering
Dana is a software architect with over twelve years of experience in advertising platform development. He’s created feature-rich ad platforms for entities like Sephora, OnSpot Data, BMW, and the Canadian government. He specializes in visualization of geospatial data and creating custom order processing pipelines. Outside of work, he enjoys swimming, snowboarding, and hockey (provided he’s on the other side of the glass). Dana’s morning routine consists of getting up, getting dressed, then spilling coffee on himself.
Interesting Fact: He’s our gentle giant, but he’s also the guy you want on your side in a bar fight.
Vice President of Digital Strategy
Peter leverages his more than ten years of SEO/SEM marketing experience to carefully craft messaging for brands and connects them to carefully crafted audiences. He began his career as an incubator for brands like Universal Studios and Konami. He’s founded three digital marketing companies that served a diverse set of clients around the country and the world, but all of that pales in comparison to his proudest achievement: his wife Sarah and their two children, Miles and Georgia.
Interesting Fact: Peter wears size 17 shoes (which means he has to take most stairs sideways).
Vice President of User Experience
A fourteen-year design veteran, Rich has been working on the front lines of the mobile industry when the phones still flipped. He specialized in visual communication, understanding user needs, and transforming complicated requirements into sleek and effective products. Rich comes to MediaJel after 5 years as UX Lead on Verizon’s messaging team, where he developed a messaging platform that now supports 45 million users.
Interesting Fact: Rich suffers from insomnia triggered by the fact that a Jr. suffix was legally included on his name—despite there being no Sr. in his family.
Naphtali is an accomplished artist with over twenty years of ad agency experience under his belt, but that doesn’t mean he’s done learning (the good ones never are). Naphtali has a deep understanding of the creative process. He not only delivers inspired branding, illustration, animation, character design, and visual storytelling; he makes sure to bring his clients along for the ride. Between the notebooks that can barely contain his ideas, to his barely-containable smile, Naphtali is a force for creativity and inspiration.
Interesting Fact: When he’s on a tight deadline, Naphtali spins Katy Perry to boost his productivity.
Senior Director of Digital Operations
Ben brings seventeen years of digital media experience to the MedialJel team. Twelve of which he spent as Senior Director of E-commerce at CBS interactive. He ran online stores and auction platforms for CBSSports.com and the NCAA, as well as for major college athletic departments like Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, and Texas. Graduating with a degree in Communications from UC San Diego, Ben specializes in project management, platform development, strategic planning, and staff development. When he’s not working, he’s living his dream with his wife Annett and their daughter, Scarlett. And one word to the wise, unless you’re a Cub’s fan, you might not want to talk baseball.
Interesting Fact: Ben is undeniably the best karaoke singer on our team. In fact, some might say this is the quality that won his wife over.
Vice President of Finance, Analytics, & Strategy
Justin uses his analytical mind and diverse professional experience to help drive revenue growth and profit maximization for companies ranging from startups to billion-dollar enterprises. With a Master’s degree in Economics, he specializes in understanding and interpreting data to build comprehensive strategies and solid financial foundations for companies to continue to grow and maximize profits, year after year. When he’s not at his MediaJel desk, you’ll find him hitting the slopes of Lake Tahoe or tearing up the dance floors of San Francisco.
Interesting Fact: With a hero like Mr. Miyagi, it’s no surprise that Justin is a black belt in karate.
Vice President of Business Development
Originally from Oakland, CA, Ian brings an impressive resume to the MediaJel team. After earning an MBA in Marketing from Arizona State University, Ian has worked at Fortune 500 companies like American Airlines and Petsmart, and founded multiple startups. While working in wine and spirits, Ian saw growing interest in cannabis, and that’s where he found his niche. In 2018, Ian launched Caliweedjobs, a platform connecting cannabis talent with employers. In the year since, he’s grown it into a bustling professional community and secured top cannabis brands as clients. At MediaJel, he’s thrilled to use his expertise to connect the cannabis industry on a much larger scale.
Interesting Fact: Ian is a lifelong musician. He’s even opened for Jason Mraz.
Director of Client Development
Nick is a weathered online media & digital marketing professional with more than eight years experience in client services and strategic digital planning. After earning a degree in business and finance from Miami University, Nick took his talents to advertising agencies like Digitas, Media Contacts and more. He’s has over $150 million in media planned and business sold for an impressive collection of brands like Kraft, JELL-O, Sprint, Jeep and many more. He’s a dual citizen of the US and Germany, a husband and a father of two. He’s a huge fan of football—the one you actually play with your feet, that is.
Interesting Fact: Nick is a dedicated fan of live music. His concert count is easily in the triple digits and he’s seen Sound Tribe Sector 9 well over 40 times.
Chief Science Officer
An accomplished mathematician and string theorist, Alex has numerous achievements in the field of Data Science where he specializes in building machine learning systems. Before MediaJel, he helped build Beats Music, a music streaming platform acquired by Apple, as well as Idle Games, Quid.com, and most recently, Tehama.io. He keeps insisting that he isn’t building a machine capable of folding space and time on the weekends, but we don’t believe him.
Interesting Fact: Alex studied 10-dimensional string theory for so long he can actually feel the other dimensions.
Interesting Fact: Funny enough, this programmer failed high school algebra.
Senior Graphic Designer/Developer
Gamel 'MEeZy' James
Interesting Fact: Gamel is also a professional DJ who regularly hosts and MCs parties.
Content Production Manager
Kris has spent over ten years in production design for TV and film. He has a passion and a talent for innovative storytelling that he’s used to bring ideas to life for clients like Sony, Warner Brothers, Showtime, Nestle, and Newegg. Kris has a bachelor’s degree in film and electronic arts with an emphasis in narrative production and an associate’s degree in electronics technology. You can often find him building his own photography rigs using precision optical techniques designed for laboratory testing.
Interesting Fact: On his second-ever day in Germany, Kris led a tour through the city of Berlin.
Sound Engineer / Post Production
Scott, a native of Newport Beach, grew up in the ocean and playing music. After two years of fine art and astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz, he realized that every spare moment he could find was spent feeding his growing passion for making electronic music. This led him to a rewarding career in production and post-production audio work in the commercial and film industry. And he still makes music with every spare moment he can find.Interesting Fact: Scott’s first job was working as a Lake Merritt gondolier.
Starting as an intern, Sam was and still is a vital part of our video production team. Currently studying Cinema at San Francisco State University, he’s our resident colorist, video editor, and a member of the creative team. When he’s not at MediaJel, in class, or doing homework, you’ll find him working on—and occasionally acting as an extra in—professional films around the state. Yes, we also wonder whether or not he sleeps.
Interesting Fact: Sam’s first female dance partner was a Barbie.
Senior Vice President of strategy
Ethan has been doing brand strategy for over a dozen years at agencies like Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Integer and 72andSunny. He’s led strategy and research for the likes of Gillette, Domino’s, Hotels.com, Kellogg’s, Intel and IZZE. With a PhD in urban ecology, he naturally ended up in marketing. In truth, his science chops help him tell fact from fiction in adland and achieve the right blend of science & art for outsized marketing results. He and his dorky family live on a steady diet of graphic novels, musicals and buttermilk pancakes.
Interesting Fact: Ethan once competed in the Swing Dance US Open.
Chaela is the face of MediaJel HQ. She’s the first person you meet walking in and is an important pillar of our company culture. She primarily runs our social media outreach and has taken to it like a fish to water. She’s been passionate about makeup for longer than she’s known how to walk, and is a certified Esthetician; a skill that comes in handy on all of the MediaJel video productions. No matter what you need, you’ll always find her ready and happy to lend a helping hand.
Interesting Fact: Chaela has a birthmark resembling a chocolate chip cookie.
